CORNELL AND NORTHWESTERN CROWN TWO CHAMPIONS EACH TO LEAD THE 2024 NATIONAL COLLEGIATE OPEN

Penn State finished with four top-three finishers at the event.

Smyrna, Delaware – In a fierce display of wrestling prowess, Cornell and Northwestern emerged as the frontrunners at the 2024 National Collegiate Open Championship, each securing two titles.

The Ivy League asserted its dominance, clinching four out of the ten championships at the event. Cornell's Benny Rogers and Ashton Davis, Columbia's Andrew Garr, and Penn's Ryan Miller claimed victory, while Northwestern's Dedrick Navarro and Sam Cartella added to the tally, sharing the spotlight with Cornell.

This victory marks Northwestern's second win at the event, with their last triumph dating back to 2014. Cornell's performance mirrored their success in 2012, approaching the record of three Champions set by Minnesota in the same year.

Penn State demonstrated its depth with four top-three finishers, closely followed by Rutgers, Cornell, and Columbia, each boasting three top-three achievers. Rutgers' Shane Cartagena-Walsh's win brings the Scarlet Knight's all-time titles to Seven matching NC State's record for the most students to earn championship honors all-time.

Queens University of Charlotte and Long Island University made notable debuts, with Long Island securing three All-Americans and Queens claiming two.

Penn State's Jack Kelly lead all athletes with three falls in just 3:54 on his way to a third place finish.

The 2024 National Collegiate Open Championship showcased the grit and talent of collegiate wrestling, spotlighting the future stars of the sport as well as those that wish to continue competing within the scholarstic styles of wrestling through open competition.
